Night of Ideas 2022

An international event, the Night of Ideas is adapting to the constraints of the virus' differentiated spread according to the territories. In France, the highlight of this seventh edition, a European Night of Ideas at the Collège de France, inviting 54 young Europeans to come and formulate their public policy proposals for the future of the continent, has been postponed from 27 January to 12 March. In more than 100 countries around the world, the operation will mark the resilience of the circulation of ideas and knowledge in times of crisis throughout the first half of 2022, starting on 27 January.


Great dialogues

In 2022, the Night of Ideas will be marked by the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union. On this occasion, throughout the EU, major dialogues will bring together leading intellectuals from the worlds of art, literature, science, journalism and commitment. In capitals across the continent, they will share their perspectives on Europe, its cultures, its challenges and its opportunities.

In Spain

The Uruguayan writer Carmen Posadas will hold a dialogue with the Finnish writer Sofi Oksanen at the Circulo de Bellas Artes.

In Portugal

Portuguese and Estonian scientists Elvira Fortunato and Maarja Kruusmaa will exchange views at the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon.

In the Czech Republic

Investigative journalist Pavla Holcová will exchange views in Prague with Matthew Caruana Galizia, who heads the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation for the protection of journalists in Malta.

In Greece

Greek Professor of European Studies at the Athens University of Economics and Business and the College of Europe in Bruges George Pagoulatos and François HeisbourgFrançois Heisbourg, special advisor to the Foundation for Strategic Research, will hold a dialogue at the Auditorium of the French Institute of Greece.

In Italy

L'astrophysicist from Italy, Marica Branchesiwill talk to the first woman to hold the title of President of Trinity College Dublin, Linda Doyle, at the Farnese Palace in Rome.

In Slovenia

Slovenian journalist Boštjan Videmšek, author of the best-selling book Plan B is committed to climate issues, will debate with Slovak academic Katarina Csefalvayova from the Faculty of International Relations at the University of Economics in Bratislava at the Europe House in Ljubljana.

In Austria

Reinhard Kaiser-Mühleckera leading figure in the new Austrian literature, will exchange views with the Croatian poet Monika Herceg in Vienna.

In Germany

The German-Iranian writer Navid Kermani will be in dialogue with Péter Nádas, Hungarian writer, in Germany.

In Latvia

Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, the first female president of Latvia and professor of psychology at the University of Montreal, will exchange views with Titus Corlățean, a Romanian politician and diplomat, who is a member of the Romanian politician and diplomat, former Minister of Foreign Affairs at the French Institute in Riga for the Night of Ideas.


European Youth Forum

In Paris, at the Collège de France, 54 young people from all the countries of the European Union will meet on the evening of 12 March to debate the issues that concern them in the Europe of tomorrow. Committed in their countries to the environment, LGBTQIA rights, equality between women and men or the protection of migrants, they are the voices of the youth who are building Europe.
