In Iraq, the theme "Relatives" is symbolic because of the multiple crises that the country has been going through for several years: political crisis, economic crisis, religious crisis, social crisis, health crisis, terrorism... It is therefore essential to continue the dialogue between all the components of Iraqi society and its diaspora. It is also important to reflect on the way Franco-Iraqis perceive their dual culture and the relationship they have with their relatives in Iraq.

The French Institute of Iraq has therefore decided to explore this theme through various events as part of the " So close and yet so far " cycle, which will be launched on the occasion of the Night of Ideas.

On 28 January 2021, the following will take place:
1. The opening of the exhibition "So close and yet so far" by artists from the Iraqi diaspora: Rabel BETSHMUEL, Jason, Salam and Ismail NOAH.
2. A performance by the Kurdish contemporary dancer Sarina Baqi Panahideh will open the exhibition. Her performance will be based on Louis Aragon's poem "J'arrive où je suis étranger" accompanied by oriental sounds.

Other events will complete this cycle:
- 18/02/2021: Conference "So close and yet so far away": Feurat Alani (author of the comic book "Perfume of Iraq" where he developed the theory of the impostor) + Adel Badawan (sociologist: relationship of exiles with their country of origin)
- – 25/02/2021 : Theatrical reading of "Place" by Tamara Al Saadi (Franco-Iraqi actress, author and director)
- 16/01/2021 and 13/02/2021: Junior and Adult film screenings on the theme Proches (Dillili in Paris, FAHIM, Le voyage du Prince, Continue).
