In Iraq, the theme "Close" is symbolic because of the multiplicity of crises that this country has been going through for several years: political crisis, economic crisis, religious crisis, social crisis, health crisis, terrorism... It is therefore essential to continue the dialogue between all the components of Iraqi society and its diaspora. It is also important to reflect on how Franco-Iraqis perceive their dual culture and the relationship they have with their relatives in Iraq.

The Institut français d'Irak has therefore decided to take up this theme through various events as part of the "So close and yet so far away" cycle that will be launched on the occasion of the Night of Ideas.
January 28, 2021 will take place:

  1. The opening of the exhibition "So close and yet so far away" of artists from the Iraqi diaspora: Rabel BETSHMUEL, Jason, Salam and Ismail NOAH.
  2. A performance by the Kurdish contemporary dancer, Sarina Baqi Panahideh, will open the exhibition. Her performance will be based on Louis Aragon's poem "J'arrive où je suis étranger" accompanied by oriental sounds.

Other events will complete this cycle, including workshops and film screenings.
