As part of the "Close" theme, Madrid's Night of Ideas 2021 proposes to analyse the links between living beings, human or not, with a central focus on the plant world. This theme will be approached from several disciplines and perspectives by thinkers and artists from various horizons.

Course of events:

Museo Reina Sofía. Edificio Nouvel, Auditorio 400

  • 18.00 Welcome by Mr Casa, French Ambassador to Spain and Mabel Tapia, Deputy Director of the Reina Sofía Museum.

  • 6:10 pm Meeting with the artist Alejandra Riera and her work "Faire avec les lieux. Possible (self) transformations". This project proposes to approach together a reflection on the making, the invention of the place, making it place, by reconsidering in a more attentive way the relations between living beings.

  • 19h00 Conference with the philosopher and writer Emanuele Coccia "The life of plants. A metaphysics of mixing". In this book, the author proposes to give back to plants their indispensable biological and cosmic role in the reflections on our planet.

  • 19:45 Open dialogue moderated by María González Reyes, professor and activist at the association Ecologistas en Acción.

  • 20:15 Performance "Respiración oceánica", by the Basque artist Itziar Okariz. This work is built from a chorus of breaths with a special focus on the Ujjayi breath, used in the practice of yoga and known as the oceanic breath. Performance presented by Isabel de Naverán, researcher in the fields of art, contemporary dance and performance, and head of performing arts at the Reina Sofía Museum.
