For the 24th Ideas Night 2021 we take you on an evening tour of Nairobi's Eastlands district with the former mayor of Nairobi, Mr. Joe Aketch, a young Kenyan hairdresser, Molly Akeyo, and the poet Teardrops, all of whom are natives of this district. They will be accompanied and interviewed by the journalist and actor Mr. John Sibi-Okumu.

In colonial times, the Eastlands district was reserved for Africans, it later became the district from which the first generation of African civil servants, trade unionists, boxers and renowned Kenyan musicians came. Today, even though the neighbourhood has become a middle-class residential area, it remains an important centre of trade and social relations where vendors harass customers and negotiate prices in a split second.

In parallel to this film, the Alliance française de Nairobi will present from 25 January to 21 February "Made in Eastlando", an exhibition and performances conceived by the stylist Kevo Abbra where dancers, graphic designers, poets and musicians will mingle to recreate the vibrant atmosphere of this district which differs in every way from the aseptic atmosphere of the shopping centres that are very present in the other districts of the Kenyan capital.
