Debate

CLOSE. BREAKING THE WALLS: Debate on urban regeneration through street art

17:30 (French time) and 18:30 (Romanian time) | Live on the Facebook page Institut français de Cluj via Zoom

Debate organized by the French Institute of Romania in Cluj-Napoca in collaboration with the Cities of Nantes and Cluj-Napoca. Duration: 1h-1h30. Simultaneous translation provided.

In 2021, the French Institute celebrates 30 years of existence in Cluj-Napoca, which translates into 30 years of Franco-Romanian cooperation. Also in 2021, the cities of Nantes and Cluj-Napoca celebrate 30 years of twinning. In order to mark these anniversaries in a symbolic and contemporary way, the French Institute is proposing a new project "Proches. Brisons les murs" (Let's Break the Walls), which will have two components: a debate of ideas during the Night of Ideas (January) and artistic creation (June) through the creation, thanks to local artists, of a common graffiti spread over two walls, one in each city.

Conceived as a first step in this cooperation project, the debate will bring together artists and representatives of the local administration of Nantes and Cluj-Napoca to discuss the role of urban art in local development and urban regeneration, while promoting the exchange of good practices.

PARTICIPANTS:

Antoine GRIPAY - leader and founder Katra.

Amélie RANTY - in charge of Art in the public space, Direction Cultures et des arts dans la ville, Nantes Métropole.

KERO ZEN - visual artist, one of the initiators of street art and graffiti art in Romania

Ovidiu CÎMPEAN - Director of the Directorate General for Communication, Local Development and Project Management and the Centre for Innovation and Civic Imagination of the City Council of Cluj-Napoca.

Ioana COSTAȘ - Deputy Director of the French Institute of Romania in Cluj-Napoca and moderator of the debate.
