The Institut Français de Madrid has built its "Nuit des idées" (Night of Ideas) around themes that are more topical than ever, in response to the changing political situation on both sides of the Pyrenees. France and Spain are facing new challenges in the practice of their democracies. Against a backdrop of growing social diversity, how can we ensure citizen representation in relation to institutions? What is the place of old and new democracies in the current geopolitical context? Leading figures from the humanities and social sciences, such as Alain Finkielkraut and Javier Gomá, as well as political figures such as Hubert Védrine and Miguel Ángel Moratinos, presented their latest work on the subject and shared their visions of today's world.
