For the second Night of Ideas in Ireland, the French Embassy in Dublin, in partnership with the Irish Film Institute (IFI), is offering an evening screening/debate on January 31 on the theme: "Yesterday, today, tomorrow: what's the point of space exploration?".

The event will kick off with the Irish premiere screening of the documentary "16 Levers de soleil", selected at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival (Doc Day closing session), and in the presence of its director, Pierre-Emmanuel Le Goff. This work invites viewers on a behind-the-scenes journey on the International Space Station with French astronaut Thomas Pesquet as their guide. The film retraces a 196-day human and scientific adventure, 450 kilometers from Earth. Thomas Pesquet takes viewers on a journey of discovery into the evolution and fragility of our planet.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with the director and other speakers on the aims and ambitions of the conquest of space.
