From 6pm to midnight on January 25, 2018, the "Whistleblowers Forum" will take place at the MUCEM: a program of round tables with numerous guests, workshops, and a space for exchange and conviviality around the issue of whistleblowers.
In English, they are called "whistleblowers": by "blowing the whistle", a person or a group alerts the opinion on a social, sanitary, democratic or environmental threat. What they have in common is that they speak out when others remain silent. Men and women who one day take the risk of sacrificing their career, their comfort, their private life, to denounce what seems to them unjust in the name of the general interest. The consequences can be terrible for these people who must be protected by a specific legal status.
At a time when the issue of whistleblowers (against tax evasion, health scandals, environmental and climate threats) is beginning to be in the spotlight, our meetings, in the presence of whistleblowers, organizations fighting corruption and opacity, journalists and personalities from both sides of the Mediterranean and the rest of Europe, will be an opportunity to present the struggles of these actors and the issues related to this issue of whistleblowing, its delivery, the protection of its authors ...
Also, we will see that antinomic interests clash whether it is about environmental, sanitary, political or financial alert. We see this with the current legislative debates on the protection of certain whistleblowers (Sapin 2 law) and the provisions protecting business secrecy (European directive)
