The relationship between elected officials and citizens seems to have become strained. Citizens sometimes feel that their representatives are increasingly inaccessible, as elected officials and their constituents drift apart irretrievably. At a time when we have more and more tools to communicate or co-construct, at a time when everyone is demonstrating their determination to jointly invent tomorrow's world, this distance raises questions. In this climate of mistrust, would it represent a democratic danger?
Villyz, a start-up enabling local authorities to finance their public interest projects through participative loans, intends to address the issue of citizen involvement and proximity at a time of barrier gestures. In the company of a political scientist, two elected representatives and an economics graduate who is also a co-founder of Villyz, we will attempt to decipher this phenomenon and provide answers through concrete examples.
