The European project is based on a common history and values, but it has so far materialised by taking "the rational path of market integration" rather than "the emotional path of belonging" (according to Pascal Lamy). In an era of identity awakenings, what room is left for feelings of belonging to Europe?

This theme, which refers to the major challenges of our time, is part of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union and invites us to question the notion of home, the diversity of European narratives of belonging and the evolution of our contemporary socialities. Through the testimonies and intimate accounts of Europeans, The Night of Ideas in the Netherlands 2022 explores what underlies this sense of belonging, whether one was born in Europe or elsewhere.
