A flagship and recurrent event organised by the French Institute of Israel (IFI), in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Israel, the Polish Institute in Tel Aviv and the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Night of Philosophy 2021 will be held on 10 June from 4 pm (Israeli time, UTC +3), in a digital and interactive format this year, which will allow, in spite of the restrictions still in place on our movements, exchange and dialogue between European and Israeli speakers - philosophers, intellectuals, representatives of civil society, actors of the cultural world - and the public. The theme of this year's event will be "The Future of Democracy" and it will take place under the sign of rapprochement and sharing. In fact, thanks to its digital form, Philosophy Night will be able to reach new audiences throughout the country and abroad.

Created in 2015 by the French Institute of Israel, the Night of Philosophy has become one of the major cultural events in Israel. It has since joined forces with the Goethe-Institut Israel, the Polish Institut in Tel Aviv and the Austrian Cultural Forum to become an exceptional platform for dialogue and exchange. Internationally, it has promoted dialogue between European and Israeli philosophers and intellectuals with the Israeli public on various critical issues of our contemporary world. In Israel, it has allowed for a rich and constructive dialogue between the different components of civil society (religious - secular, Jewish - Arab, academics - political figures and even policy makers, etc.). This year, the online format of the Night of Philosophy in Israel, curated by philosopher Raphael Zagury-Orly, with the generous advice and support of Dr. Felix Heidenreich (IZKT - University of Stuttgart, Germany), proposes to address the complex question of "The Future of Democracy". The Night of Philosophy in Israel 2021 will take place on 10 June 2021 and will include 25 lectures and online discussions between renowned scholars and intellectuals. In the spirit of its previous editions, Philosophy Night 2021 will allow for a stimulating and intense dialogue between the participants and the public (who will be able to communicate directly with the invited speakers via the online chat service specially configured for this event).

Hélène Cixous, one of the most important French writers, poet, playwright and anglicist, known for her involvement in various feminist movements, will open the event at 4:00 pm (Israeli time, 3:00 pm - French time) with a sequence broadcasted jointly on Facebook and via ZOOM, presented by Raphael Zagury-Orly. At 7:00 pm (Israeli time, 6:00 pm - French time), the guest of honour of this 6th edition of the Night of Philosophy in Israel, Mr. Robert Badinter, former Minister of Justice in France, former President of the Constitutional Council, and initiator of the abolition of the death penalty in France, will speak at the inaugural session of the event. This will be preceded by the launch of the event by the European Ambassadors partners - H.E. Mr. Eric Danon, French Ambassador to Israel, Dr. Susanne Wasum-Rainer, German Ambassador to Israel, Mr. Marek Magierowski, Polish Ambassador to Israel, and Dr. Hannah Liko, Austrian Ambassador to Israel.

Among the guests this year: Marc-Alain Ouaknin, philosopher and rabbi, Martin Saar, heir of the Frankfurt School, Sandra Laugier, professor of philosophy at the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, Pr. Mordechai Kremnitzer, Pr. Eva Ilouz, director of studies at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Corine Pelluchon, specialist in political philosophy and applied ethics (medical, environmental and animal) and professor at the University Gustave Eiffel.
