Davy Chou is a French-Cambodian filmmaker and a rising figure in the revival of Cambodian cinema. Le Sommeil d'or (The Golden Sleep), a documentary about the birth of Cambodian cinema in the 1960s and its brutal destruction by the Khmer Rouge in 1975, is his first feature film. His short film Cambodia 2099, set entirely in Diamond Island, Phnom Penh, was selected for the 2014 Directors' Fortnight. His latest feature, Diamond Island, was screened at Critics' Week 2016, before being selected and awarded at several international festivals. Here he answers questions from two high school students at the French High School in Phnom Penh about his experience of confinement and his desire to film his loved ones.
