On 8 March, on the occasion of the International Women's Rights Day, the French Institute of Italy dedicated a meeting to the theme "European Women and Diplomacy. Crossed views in Europe, France and Italy".
Every year, the French Institute of Italy offers its public the Farnese Dialogues: this series of debates allows personalities from France and Italy to discuss the major issues of society throughout the year, in the Farnese Palace.
On 8 March 2021, the dialogue, dedicated to feminist diplomacy and moderated by Maurizio Caprara of Corriere della Serra, brought together specialists in these issues:
- Laurence Badel, professor of contemporary history at the University of Paris 1-Panthéon-Sorbonne, who has just published Diplomaties européennes, XIXe-XXIe siècles, with Presses de Sciences Po
- Céline Jurgensen, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations in Rome
- Renato Varriale, Ambassador and Director General for Resources and Innovation, Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation
This meeting explored the question of the place of women in diplomatic careers, as well as that of feminist diplomacy, its stakes, its means and its consequences.
The meeting is available for replay in French:
Also in Italian:
On this occasion, the Libreria Stendhal, Librairie française de Rome, welcomed Laurence Badel for a conversation with Fabrice Jesné, director of studies for modern and contemporary periods at the École française de Rome.
